Much of the culture in Abilene has grown up around its place as an educational center. This high regard for education has fostered great cultural places such as the Paramount Theatre, the Center for Contemporary Arts and the Abilene Zoo.
History
Once considered a near-ghost town, Abilene, an old stock shipping point used
by cattlemen, has grown into a large city rich in history and culture. Much
of this history can be explored at places like the Grace
Museum, the Frontier
Texas attraction and by following the Texas
Forts Trail.
